My friend and I were out and about on the hills above Christchurch. We often go there to fly our radio control gliders... Hi, my name is Ben Gelton the Developer of txtsnatch, Before we go flying we always check the wind direction and strenght because our gliders need at least 15knots of wind to fly well.
Our local weather website provides us with a new forcast every 4 hours. This particular day we had a problem when we got up there, we found that the weather had changed and the strong Northwest wind we were expecting had dropped down to almost nothing. What could we do other than wait and pray that the wind would pick up again and from the direction that had been predicted. It was at that moment that I thought. What if I could check our local weather website again... to see if the conditions were due to change, after all we didn't want to waste the whole day up there if nothing was going to happen. |
My problem was that I had one of those older mobile phones that only had SMS texting and not much else, no web browser. Then it came to me, What if I could get just the key information I needed from the weather website and have it sent to my phone as a text message... "This would save me from having to logon to the internet, locate the correct page, would elliminate the need for a fancy mobile phone and would give me exactly what I wanted while I was miles away from the nearest computer". A couple of months later I built txtsnatch to do just this, a software program that run's on my computer at home and does the hard work of collecting the information I want from the web then forwarding it on to my mobile phone as a text message whenever I need it. Now I can spend the whole day up in the hills if I want and know that I am getting the most up to date information possible sent directly to me without any effort. txtsnatch is my attempt at creating a tool that gives me the information I want off the internet without the hassel of navigating through websites again and again to get it. What's more I have found a way of doing this that gives me the choice of what information I receive and I don't have to pay sombody else for the privalage of receiving it. I hope you try txtsnatch and that it also meets your needs, if not let me know so that I can improve it. Thanks for any, and all feedback. Regards |
